New menu items are "cropping up" all winter long, including a melt-in-your-mouth grouper with wasabi cream... and a marinated pork chop (bone gnawing is encouraged) ... your easiest "Public news source" is our Facebook page, where you'll find a lot of your friends...

Come enjoy the tender flatiron steak, chargrilled just the way you like it, and tilapia topped with tomato-caper salsa, or one of Jill's "international" weekend specials, featuring the flavors of Thailand, the Mediterranean or India. Our original creative pizzas are as fun as ever and best of all, you can now dine in Public Wednesday through Sunday! The kitchen is open until at least 9 pm on Friday and Saturday — get a taste of Public Restaurant!

Public Lounge was the "spirited" point of departure to the Great Beyond during Roxbury's ghoulish Ghost Tours last October. Brave "spectrologists" boarded the Victorian horse drawn coach for encounters with Roxbury's most notorious dear departed. First, though, they were treated to scary mountain lore from "Gory Laurie" McIntosh, food specials, even some "spirit" warmth before they set out. The Public's spooky-chic staff was be decked out to startle and amaze and even some of Roxbury's ghosts came by after moonset to liven up the crowd.

1898 was a good year, too!

The Public Lounge welcomed 2008 with bang — friends old and new joined us as we kissed 2007 goodbye...Click here to see more New Year's fun!

The Public also made quite a splash in 1898 during Roxbury's Turn of the Century Days with a Beer Garden serving savory sausage 'til the dogs came home. The old-fashioned fun went on well into the evening and in the Public during some of the most perfect, balmy Catskills summer nights we've seen in a century or two. . . . And don't worry, the 19th century will be coming around again next summer and will be more "agreeable" than ever... Meanwhile, you can look forward to . . .

Food with an accent

Whether you're taking to the slopes or tubing the Esopus, you'll need to fuel up. Our menu has a Latin swing and lots of personality. Enjoy our creative pizzas, quesadillas and our new starters, including (by popular demand) some soups and salads. New entrees include a delicious flatiron steak and hearty chili. We'll be expanding our menu throughout the winter, so come feed your curiosity — and weigh in on your favorites.

Public Lounge has a new "regular" — our espresso machine! We're getting serious about the grind -- and foam.

You can experience out-of-this-county video projections with music, movies (who's that?), art -- and often the unexpected. Lounge with your friends or chill with your laptop, the wi fi is always on. We'll supply some intelligent, escapist 'zines for those times you wanna get away from it all (even when you're getting away from it all . . . ) Just think of us as your all-purpose escape route.
