1898 was a good year, too!

The Public Lounge finished the old year and welcomed 2008 with bang friends old and new joined us as we served up tapas, sparkly and fun and kissed 2007 goodbye! Click here to see more New Year's fun! News Flash: the Public is under construction! It's been a grand ride so far for my partner Jill Healy and me (the ubiquituous Trish) as we took the reins of the Catskill's coolest nightspot and became your Public Newsaunts in late November -- click here to read more about our plans to expand the Public Lounge restaurant this spring. Public Lounge was the "spirited" point of departure to the Great Beyond during Roxbury's ghoulish Ghost Tours. The night was dark and the moon was full on October 27, and dozens of brave "spectrologists" boarded the Victorian horse drawn coach for encounters with Roxbury's most notorious dear departed. Good thing our guests were fortified with hot mulled cider, food specials and even some "spirit" warmth before they set out. The Public's spooky-chic staff was decked out to startle and amaze and even some of Roxbury's ghosts came in after the moon set to liven up the crowd. Check it out if you dare!
The Public also made quite a splash in 1898 during Roxbury's Turn of the Century Days with a Beer Garden serving savory sausage 'til the dogs came home. The Public Lounge's notorious founder, Dolly Eagen Fuller, a woman with a past (or two), seduced erstwhile virtuous ball players into imbibing vintage ales with their brats! The old-fashioned fun went on well into the evening and in the Public during some of the most perfect, balmy Catskills summer nights we've seen in a century or two. . . . Take a look at the "Yesteryear" fun we've had this summer (pics here) and visit the Roxbury website for the scoop. And don't worry ... the 19th century will be coming around again next summer and will be more "agreeable" than ever . . . Meanwhile, you can look forward to . . .

Public Lounge has a new "regular" our espresso machine! We're getting serious about the grind -- and foam -- just in time to shake off that foggy mountain chill.) We're right across the stream from The Roxbury Motel, so put on your parka and come on over. Roxbury guests enjoy a complimentary second round just for spending the evening with us. . . And our regulars enjoy our . . . aromatic wit and nutmeg?
